My earlier follow-up was incomplete. Here it is completed.
When I wrote, "it reeks a little too much of female privilege and business as usual," I did not mean to be sexist. All genders may be feminists and any gender may do sex work. However, the strongest proponents of sex work seem to be modern, self-proclaimed, feminist women. I find it difficult for these women to be objective while promoting a traditional model that, nonetheless, has become safer, easier, more mainstream, and more lucrative than ever before. Ostensibly, in this arena, women have convenience, privilege, and competitive advantage yet these have little to do with feminism and equality of opportunity.
A counter-argument is that the world remains a society evolving from patriarchy, a world where men continue to have the majority of opportunity, money, and power. Thus, even in our evolving society, women are more likely to sell their bodies due to need rather than any newfound equality and choice. |
